Welcome to part Two of this special episode titled, You Know You're a Leader When...
Ten Characteristics of Effective Leadership. In part one of this episode, Lisa outlined all 10 characteristics briefly and told you that in her humble opinion, they belong in three different groups. The first one I labeled core values and those two characteristics are integrity and courage.
The second group Lisa put together of the remaining eight characteristics belongs in the category she has labeled emotional intelligence. Those characteristics are self-awareness, gratitude, empathy and respect.
In the second half of this episode, we're going to take a look at the characteristics that Lisa put in the category called skills and she'll tell you a little bit more about each of these. Focusing on the ability to delegate, have clear communication, learning agility and influence. We hope you find some benefit from recognizing what characteristics you already possess, but then also seeing or perhaps growing your awareness of an area that you can develop still. So thanks for tuning in for part two.

Episode 8: Develop Awareness of Yourself
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
In this Episode: Lisa focuses on the first step of her three part process, (G.E.T.: Grow, Equip & Thrive)
Grow: How to develop awareness of yourself. Lisa is an Enneagram practitioner and emphasizes the value of using various assessment tools such as the iEQ9. Lisa is also certified to work with Myers-Briggs and is familiar with the DiSC and StrengthFinders. Her recommendations in this episode about using assessments as a learning and leadership tool are a combination of personal and professional experience.
Why assessments? Because we are able to identify common themes that show up within our assessment data.
Lisa touches on blind spots in leadership - we all have them - for example, how do you handle conflict? As you continue to build awareness of yourself, you choose what habits or actions lead to effective change for you.
As a person of faith, you've signed up to be transformed into the likeness of Christ. Having external data as reference points from different assessments, including things like sacred pathways and spiritual gifts, can help you develop strategies for change. As you do your personal work, you are impacting others without saying anything. Those changes effect the people that you work with, the people that you live with.
Bottom line:
The underlying principle of transformational leadership is the business of change. By your modeling the power of change, you are in effect leading the people around you to follow your change model. That is what transformational leadership is all about.
So grow your awareness of just one area that you want to make change. You might have to let go of a habit that you've fallen into, and lean in toward Jesus, asking for guidance and support and direction and strength to make those changes happen.
Lisa’s word of encouragement: “The more awareness that we can develop about how we move through the world, the more active we can be in seeing the areas of our life that can benefit from change and growth."

Episode 7: Three Step Process for Change
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
In this Episode: Three Step Process For Change, Lisa shares a three part process that you can use for your personal and professional growth and development. No matter what it is that you want to learn about, no matter what it is that you want to change, this process works: G.E.T., it's an acronym that Lisa created to fast tack your ability to Grow, Equip, & Thrive!
Lisa also shares a personal story that involves being outdoors and part of a poem, by Robert Frost that has been transformational in her own thinking over the years: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could, to where it bent in the undergrowth.”…
As you continue to grow your awareness about this need for change, play with the idea of what it would be like if that change actually came into being.
Bottom line:
As a leader, you are making choices all the time. Make them with clear intention.
Lisa’s word of encouragement: “As a transformational leader, you also recognize change is good. So let go of those past expectations of doing it all and getting it all right, and lean in toward the invitation to thrive in your life, that God gives you by the way that you're wired and the way that you can work.”

Episode 5: Make Room for Margin to Gain Value, Productivity and Peace
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
In this episode, Lisa shares share a very important concept that she learned in 2004, that transformed the way she works: Margin.
Thanks to Dr. Richard Swenson’s book, Margin Lisa developed awareness of the ways she lived without margin. What is margin all about? Well, it's essential and we take it for granted. And in this day and age, it's absolutely a measure that needs to be paid attention to. Lisa dives deep into educating her listeners as to why we need to keep our eyes open to the various Margins in our own work, life and faith.
Lisa reads from Romans 12:1-2 The Message
… "So here's what I want you to do. God helping you. Take your everyday ordinary life, you're sleeping, eating, going to work and walking around life and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”
Bottom line:
God is on your side. You're going to be changed from the inside out when you don’t let yourself become so well-adjusted to the culture around you which expects you to work beyond your capacity and live outside your margins. Just say no! If you are living within your margins, you have extra to give to those you love and care about, your people, your family, the community, and to others that might come across your path. Having margin will change your life.
Lisa’s word of encouragement: “ When we go outside our margin, we get sick. Leave room for growth, and health and over-all wellbeing - but most importantly - take time to focus on God and your spiritual growth."

![Episode 4: Characteristics of a Transformational Leader](https://pbcdn1.podbean.com/imglogo/image-logo/9044347/let_go_lean_in_podcast_300x300.jpg)

Episode 4: Characteristics of a Transformational Leader
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
Tuesday Aug 11, 2020
In this Episode, Lisa talks about the most important characteristics of what makes a Transformational Leader.
What makes a leader? A leader wants to see things changed. A leader is a person who can envision how something can be and has ideas about how to take action to get to that place, that change in a family, in an organization. So leaders have vision and leaders can inspire. And by inspire, I mean, they come around, rally people and say, "Hey, look, come on. We can do this. Come on with me. Let's go there." And they paint the picture. They point the way.
When you think about your leadership, when you think about what you offer, when you think about the goals that you have for yourself personally and professionally, change is a big part of it. And here's what I want to tell you about change. It's hard. You're experiencing it right now. You know that change is hard, but if you're willing to look for the opportunities that change brings, change can be good. Change is hard, but change is good. So leadership is a part of who you are. And you know that this is a time to lean in, to let go of the things that have held you back from truly believing that you're a leader and lean in toward the unique call that God has on your life. I like to think of the passage of Matthew 11:28 through 30, where Jesus talks about and invites us, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
As you continue to grow and you let go of self limiting beliefs and the things that hold you back, you are going to become more of who he intends for you to be. So that leadership call is priceless, it is precious, and it's profound. Lean in my friends.
